Gallup police and UNM-Gallup ask residents to take a survey on bringing back a local police academy

The Gallup Police Department is asking residents to fill out a community survey as it works with UNM-Gallup to reestablish a local police academy.

The department said it has worked alongside UNM-Gallup on the academy for years. Since 2020, it said, it has helped seek grant funding and worked with local partners on the effort, and it is now closer than ever to the goal but needs the community's support to finish the process.

The survey was developed by the UNM-Gallup Law Enforcement Academy team to gather the feedback needed to bring the academy's services to the area, the department said.

It asks how interested a respondent is in a law enforcement career and which fields, whether they would attend academy training at UNM-Gallup, when they could attend and in what format, what might prevent them from attending, and whether financial assistance or scholarships would make them more likely to attend.
