Chains and bollards will close the Aztec Avenue parade route during special events

The City of Gallup will close the standard parade route on Aztec Avenue, from 8th Street to Puerco Drive, with chains and bollards during special events such as parades.

The chains and bollards are the primary barricade devices in a new road closure system the city is implementing. It will install warning signs along the route, including one reading "Road Closed" and one reading "Intersection To Be Closed Without Notice for Special Events".

Orange visibility flags have been installed on the chains to make the barricades more noticeable to approaching motorists and pedestrians. The city said the flags are meant to reduce the risk of collisions, vehicle damage and personal injury.

During special events, the city urges motorists approaching intersections on the parade route to reduce speed, watch for the chain-and-bollard barricades, follow posted signs and seek alternate routes whenever possible.
