Gallup Today is an independent, community-supported news source for Gallup, New Mexico, McKinley County, and the surrounding Diné communities. We publish local news, verified public-safety alerts, obituaries, community events, and a directory of local businesses.

Free for readers, always. We're funded by local businesses and funeral homes, not by paywalls or invasive ad-tech. Sponsored cards are clearly labeled, capped, and never appear in obituaries or safety alerts.

Why we started

The Gallup Independent closed in January 2026 after 115 years, and McKinley County became a news desert. Most households on the Navajo Nation have no home broadband, so a weekly PDF or a Facebook post that an algorithm may or may not show you is not good enough for a flash flood warning. Gallup Today exists to be the paper of record again: free, immediate, in four languages, and working when the connection does not.

Who can publish

• Government (city, county, police, fire): verified, with the exclusive right to post official safety alerts.
• Organizations (schools, nonprofits, chapters): verified once by our team.
• Community members: submissions are screened for accuracy and tone before publishing.
• Businesses: welcome in the directory and through clearly-labeled sponsorships.
