Gallup council takes up a $1,358,909 street agreement with the state Monday

The Gallup City Council will take up a $1,358,909 agreement with the New Mexico Department of Transportation for work on city streets at a work session Monday.

Under the agreement, the department would pay $1,019,182, or 75 percent, and the city would pay $339,727, or 25 percent. The city would cover any costs above the total.

The money comes from the FY 2027 Local Government Road Fund. The agreement lists the work as various city streets, and its scope includes reconstruction, drainage improvements, traffic signal improvements, roadway lighting and bridge replacement.

The city would act as lead agency. It would have 18 months from the approval of funding by the State Transportation Commission to finish the work, and the agreement would terminate at the end of 2027.

The agreement is the only item on the work session agenda. The city manager, Frank Chiapetti, is listed as presenting it.
