Support is available by call, text or chat at 988, and it is free, confidential and available 24/7, the Crownpoint Chapter said.

The notice, shared for National Suicide Prevention Month, says Native Americans are at a higher risk of suicide because of historical trauma and racism, and that culture and connection can be sources of strength.

It says a sense of belonging, connection to culture, and strong tribal or spiritual bonds can support emotional well-being. It asks people to connect and talk with family, friends, community members, or someone they trust, and to stay connected to cultural, spiritual and community supports that are meaningful to them.

The notice says to call 911 if there is an immediate, life-threatening emergency.
