A furniture reuse program at the transfer station gives away tables, chairs and bed frames

A reuse program at the McKinley County Transfer Station is collecting gently used furniture and giving it away free to residents who need it.

The Second Chances Reuse Program is a development of Team Second Chances, a collaboration through the Gallup/McKinley Chamber of Commerce's Leadership McKinley, the city said. The group is working to divert items from the landfill and support community members in need by collecting and repurposing usable household items.

Organizers are seeking donations of bed frames, cabinets and dressers, wooden furniture, tables and chairs, and other gently used furniture. The program cannot accept items with fabric or cloth materials.

Furniture can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Fridays, the only day the program is open, at the transfer station at 107 Hasler Valley Road.

The same site hands furniture back out at no charge. The program's flyer lists tables, chairs, bookshelves and bed frames, and says items vary and may not always be available, so what is there depends on when a person visits.
