Gallup Pride has set its Saturday, Sept. 19 schedule: a block party downtown, a drag and talent show, and an afterparty, all of it free.

The block party runs from 4 to 7 p.m. on Coal Street between Second and Third Streets, and at El Morro Events Center. The flyer, posted by gallupARTS, lists music, crafts, health screenings, food trucks and a dance party; the post adds DJs, vendors, arts and crafts, bubbles and foam.

A True Colors drag and talent show follows at 7 p.m. at El Morro Theatre, 207 W. Coal Ave. The flyer says it honors Dr. Jonathan Vilasier Iralu and celebrates the retirement of what it calls his 33 year commitment to the health of our Indigenous Relatives. The post gives the show's hours as 7 to 9 p.m.

An afterparty follows from 9 to 10:30 p.m. at 305 Pizza.

The festival is on Coal Street because the state's permitting process for its first location proved too much for the non-profit. It was originally planned for Second Street between Aztec and Coal Streets, but the NMDOT permitting process was too burdensome and Gallup Pride moved its request, a city council agenda said in August.

That closure request went to the City Council on the consent agenda — the routine items a council can approve in a single motion — with no direct fiscal impact and Matt Robinson, the tourism and marketing manager, named as the speaker. An agenda does not record what a council decided, and the city has not published the outcome.
