The 57th Cibola and McKinley county fair fills Labor Day weekend with livestock shows, 4-H judging and a bull riding challenge. Online entries for the Open Building close Sept. 4.

The 57th annual Bi-County Fair runs Thursday, Sept. 3, through Monday, Sept. 7, in Prewitt, over Labor Day weekend. Cibola and McKinley counties share the fair; this year's theme is "Red Hearts, White Lights, Blue Ribbons," tied to the country's 250th anniversary.

Thursday is check-in — 4-H indoor exhibits, Open Building exhibits, market animals, and rabbit and poultry, from 3 to 6 p.m. — followed by team roping at 6 p.m. and a mandatory livestock exhibitor meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Friday brings the market lamb show at 9 a.m., the market goat show at 1 p.m., the rabbit and poultry show at 3:30 p.m., team roping at 6 p.m. and a cake walk at 6:30 p.m. Vendor booths are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday opens with the market swine show at 9 a.m. and the Open Exhibit Building at 10 a.m., then a pet show at 11 a.m., a chili cook-off at 1 p.m., the market steer show at 2 p.m., public speaking at 3:30 p.m., watermelon eating at 4 p.m., contest basket bingo at 5 p.m. and the Prewitt Labor Day Classic Bull Riding Challenge at 6 p.m.

Sunday has 4-H games at 9:30 a.m., awards at 11:30 a.m. and the junior livestock sale at 1 p.m., with a 50/50 raffle after. The fair closes Monday with the Debbie Lee Memorial Jr. Rodeo at 8 a.m. and grounds clean-up from 8 to 10 a.m.

Anyone entering the Open Building — art, baking, garden vegetables, flower arranging, quilting — has until Sept. 4 to enter online. In-person entries are taken during check-in on Sept. 3 from 3 to 6 p.m. and Sept. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open Building exhibits are released Sunday, Sept. 6, at 5 p.m.; the fair said there will be no Monday pick-ups.
