The Navajo Nation Council asks people to wear a color for each day of its fall session, Oct. 19 to Oct. 23

The 25th Navajo Nation Council has given each day of its 2026 fall session an awareness color, and is asking community members and attendees to wear it.

The session runs from Oct. 19 to Oct. 23, the council said, and each day corresponds with a color representing an awareness issue that affects the Nation.

The colors are purple on Oct. 19 for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, pink on Oct. 20 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, red on Oct. 21 for National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, orange on Oct. 22 for Every Child Matters, and yellow on Oct. 23 for suicide prevention and recovery.

On the first day the council said it offers support and compassion for all victims of domestic violence and stands against all forms of violence that harms families and communities. On the second, it said breast cancer awareness is critical to promoting healthy communities, and that it supports prevention methods such as early detection through screenings.

Substance abuse impacts Navajo families and communities, the council said, and through awareness, compassion and outreach it supports and prays for those fighting substance abuse and addiction.

The orange day marks the National Day of remembrance, recognized on Sept. 30, which the council said honors the survivors and those who were lost due to the residential school system and boarding schools.

On the last day, the council said, it raises awareness of mental health, suicide prevention and substance abuse recovery by sharing stories and compassion.
