gallupARTS is taking applications from artists for two shows at ART123 Gallery, one this winter and one early next year.

The first is the 6th Annual Pop-Up Holiday Art Market, which the organization said runs at ART123 Gallery from Dec. 4 to Jan. 2. Artists can learn more and apply at www.galluparts.org/holidaymarket. The deadline to apply is Oct. 30.

The second is the 9th Annual Artist Challenge, called Four Square, which gallupARTS said takes its inspiration from the number 9, a perfect square. Selected artists are asked to make a series of four square artworks in increasing sizes -- 3 by 3 inches, 6 by 6 inches, 9 by 9 inches and 12 by 12 inches. Each series focuses on a single subject of the artist's choice and explores it through a progressive shift in perspective, either zooming in or zooming out from one artwork to the next.

Any two-dimensional medium is eligible, and substrates are provided, according to the organization. The challenge runs Jan. 9 to Feb. 6 and the show runs Feb. 13 to March 6. The application deadline is Nov. 30.

To apply for the challenge, gallupARTS asks for a letter of interest with the artist's name, location, contact information, a brief artist statement, why they want to take part, their website or social media if they have one, and 3 to 5 images of their work. Applications go to assistant@galluparts.org, or can be dropped off or mailed to ART123 Gallery, 123 W. Coal Ave., Gallup, NM 87301.

A third call is still open. gallupARTS is seeking proposals for a social justice-themed show at ART123 in November, and the guest curator chosen receives a $1,200 stipend and a $400 materials budget. That deadline is Sept. 7.

The organization lists its open calls at www.galluparts.org/artistcalls.
