gallupARTS has received funding from New Mexico Humanities Council for a guest lecture series on New Deal art this fall.
The first lecture is "Art for All: 1930s Federal Art Centers," by Dr. Sara Woodbury, at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the Octavia Fellin Public Library. Woodbury is curator of art at the Barry Art Museum at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, and previously worked at the Roswell Museum. Her research on federal community art centers has appeared in edited volumes and peer-reviewed journals.
New Mexico had four Federal Art Centers in the 1930s, including one in Gallup.
The program is free and open to the public, and gallupARTS said light refreshments will be served. The funding comes through the Federation of State Humanities Councils with support from the Mellon Foundation.
gallupARTS has since said the first lecture can be attended online as well as in person. Online attendance requires registration, through a Zoom link posted with the announcement and a QR code printed on the flyer.
