Crownpoint Chapter hands out coal tickets from Oct. 26, and coal opens Nov. 4

Coal tickets from the Community Heating Resource Program will be available at Crownpoint Chapter beginning Oct. 26.

Coal opens Nov. 4, the chapter said. Chapter members can receive a ticket from their local chapter, then take it to Navajo Mine to have the coal loaded into a vehicle or trailer.

Coal can also be delivered to chapters and villages, to reach people who live far away from Navajo Mine.

The program has been open to the entire Navajo Nation and the Hopi Tribe since 2017, and thousands of Navajo people and several Hopi villages have benefited from it, the chapter said.

Navajo Mine had been providing coal to chapters local to the mine when NTEC started working in 2016 to expand the program to include more Navajo chapters. In 2017, when Kayenta Mine closed in Arizona, NTEC opened it to all Navajo Nation chapters and Hopi villages.
