Navajo police say a missing elder and a 7-year-old were found safe at the fair

A 65-year-old woman reported missing at the Navajo Nation Fairgrounds was found and reunited with her family, the Navajo Police Department said.

The department's Window Rock District received the report at approximately 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, and the woman was back with her family at 3:12 p.m., the department said.

Officers from the Window Rock District worked with the department's Missing Persons Unit and with Apache County Emergency Management to find her.

Earlier the same day, around noon, a 7-year-old girl wandered off in the crowd during Kid's Day and was reunited safely with her mom not long after she was reported missing, the department said.

The department asked families to keep an eye on children and elders during fair week, and to take a photograph of them, shoes included, as they enter the fairgrounds. A recent photo can be extremely helpful if they become lost, it said.

It also asked families to talk with children and elders about what to do if they get separated, and to point out law enforcement, fair security and fair staff to them.

Officers will patrol inside and outside the fairgrounds and the parking areas throughout fair week, the department said, and it asked anyone who needs assistance not to hesitate to engage with them.
