The Gallup Police Department will hold a one-day recruiting drive on Sept. 18, 2026, where applicants can complete police interviews, written testing and the physical fitness assessment in one visit.

Written testing starts at 9:30 a.m. at the police department. The department asks applicants to bring professional interview attire and athletic gear for the fitness test, and recommends practicing the online NPOST exam beforehand.

The department said this week that it is hiring. Non-certified recruits start at $23.35 an hour and move to $30.49 an hour upon certification. Certified lateral officers start at $30.49 an hour, which may increase depending on experience.

Benefits listed include 90/10 insurance, dental and vision insurance, 15 holidays, annual leave, sick leave, the New Mexico Public Employees Retirement Association, Aflac insurance, tuition assistance for job-related courses, a confidential employee assistance program for counseling, and deferred compensation.
