Two-day training held Aug. 20-21 at the Gallup Police Department. Officers came from five agencies, including State Police and Gallup PD. Cross-commissioning lets them respond across jurisdictions on the Navajo Nation.

The Navajo Police Training Academy held a two-day cross-commission training Aug. 20-21 at the Gallup Police Department, and 27 newly commissioned officers took the oath of office.
The officers came from the New Mexico State Police, the Gallup Police Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Navajo County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Cross-commissioning is meant to improve law-enforcement response and coordination across jurisdictions on the Navajo Nation.
Navajo Nation Judge Livingston administered the oath at the swearing-in ceremony. The department credited Gallup Police Chief Erin Toadlena-Pablo and Capt. Shawn Martin of the New Mexico State Police for the collaboration.
