Route 66 Desert Challenge rescheduled to Aug. 29-30

The Route 66 Desert Challenge has been rescheduled to Saturday, Aug. 29 and Sunday, Aug. 30, according to a revised flyer posted by Visit Gallup.

The off-road race is presented by Red Rock Motorsports and the New Mexico Race Collective on an approximately 22- to 25-mile hare scrambles loop.

Saturday opens with a pre-ride of the race course from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., youth training from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and the youth race at 2 p.m. Results follow the race, with the trophy presentation at the Rattlers MC race. On Sunday, sign-up runs 7 to 8 a.m., a prayer meeting is at 7:30 a.m., the riders meeting is at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m.

Entry is $85 for pro class, $75 for A-C classes, $55 for beginner, $35 for minis and $30 for the Saturday pre-ride. Pre-entering saves $20 and closes at 5 p.m. the Thursday before the event. Organizers advertise 100% pro payback.

Helmets and spark arrestors are mandatory. Open camping is allowed with no hookups.
