Jake Skeets, the Navajo Nation poet laureate and a native of Vanderwagen, has been awarded a $50,000 fellowship from the Academy of American Poets, gallupARTS said in sharing the news.

The academy's fellowships support poets laureate in carrying out a public project in their communities. The announcement gallupARTS shared did not describe Skeets's project in full.
