Flooding has washed out Badger Loop Road four miles southwest of the Mexican Springs Chapter House, and the road is closed, the Navajo Police Department said.

The road is not passable, police said in an update at 8:04 p.m. The Mexican Springs Chapter House is opening its parking lot to nearby residents because of a power outage and the flooding of roads in the area.

Residents who cannot access the road, and those who are stranded, can park their vehicles in the lot, but the chapter house will remain closed.

NTUA is unable to fix the power outage because roads are washed out, police said, and asked residents to be patient.

Earlier, at 4:46 p.m., the department's Crownpoint District reported heavy flooding in Mexican Springs, as well as Tohatchi, with parts of roadways and washes flooded along Route 30 and Badger Loop Road.

Police told drivers to use extra caution, to be prepared to turn around if they encounter flooded areas, and not to attempt to cross flooded roads or washes.
