Semi driver booked on DWI after truck gets stuck under a Highway 66 bridge

Gallup police arrested the driver of a purple semi-truck reported stuck beneath the bridge at East Highway 66 and Superman Canyon Road. Elias Ashley, 50, was booked on an outstanding warrant and on driving while intoxicated. Callers also reported a fight before officers arrived, and an earlier incident involving the same truck on Lewann Drive.

Gallup police arrested the driver of a semi-truck on Tuesday evening after callers reported the truck stuck beneath the bridge at East Highway 66 and Superman Canyon Road.

Officers were dispatched to the area at about 6:11 p.m. on Sept. 1 following reports of an intoxicated man in a purple semi-truck. Callers also reported a physical altercation involving two people before officers got there. The department said a previous incident involving the same truck had happened earlier in the residential area of Lewann Drive.

Officer Watchman found the semi-truck and contacted the driver, whom police identified as Elias Ashley, 50. Police said Ashley showed signs of intoxication and had an outstanding arrest warrant. He was taken into custody without incident and booked on the warrant and on driving while intoxicated.

The department said a booking photograph was not available at the time of its release.
