Semi crash cuts Interstate 40 to one lane at the 17-mile marker

A single-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck has I-40 down to one lane at the 17-mile marker. Gallup police responded at about 10:31 a.m. Monday and are asking drivers to take another route. The lane stays closed until the truck is towed.

Interstate 40 is restricted to one lane at the 17-mile marker after a single-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck, the Gallup Police Department said Monday.

Officers responded at about 10:31 a.m. on Aug. 31. The lane will stay closed until the semi-truck can be removed from the roadway, the department said, and the crash remains under investigation.

Police asked drivers to seek alternative routes where possible and to slow down through the area.

The department's written notice places the collision on I-40 westbound, while the graphic it posted alongside is headed "I-40 East 17MM." It did not reconcile the two.
