Gallup Fire is giving out free Narcan at Station 1
The Gallup Fire Department is handing out naloxone free of charge at Fire Station 1 and training anyone who asks in how to use it. No questions asked and no judgement, the department said. The offer came in a notice marking Overdose Awareness Week.

The Gallup Fire Department is giving away naloxone free of charge at Fire Station 1 and training anyone who comes in for it.
Naloxone, sold under the brand name Narcan, rapidly reverses an opioid overdose. The department said people who go to the station at 1800 S. Second Street will be shown what the drug is, how it works and how to use it, and will then be given a supply. It said there are no questions asked and no judgement.
The department made the offer in a notice marking Overdose Awareness Week. It said the greatest impact would be not to use at all, but that addiction is one of the most difficult things to overcome, and asked anyone who does use never to use alone, to keep Narcan on hand and to make sure the people around them know how to use it.
"Behind every statistic is someone's child, parent, sibling, or friend," the department wrote. It called for an end to the stigma and the silence around overdose.
