Free small-business workshops start Sept. 29 at a Navajo Nation business office in Church Rock

The Navajo Nation Division of Economic Development is holding a free four-week workshop series in Church Rock for people starting a small business, beginning Sept. 29.

The sessions meet Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. through Oct. 20 at the Eastern Regional Business Development Office, 211 E. Historic Highway 66. The series is called Turning Over A New Leaf: From Blueprint to Fall Harvest, and no registration is required.

The Sept. 29 session is an introduction to small business development: building a business toolbox, whether a business idea is feasible, how to market a product or service, the five Ps of marketing, customer service and pricing.

On Oct. 6 the subject is business financial management, including tracking revenue, cash in and cash out, and basic recordkeeping and bookkeeping. Oct. 13 covers why and how to write a business plan and what goes in one.

The last session, Oct. 20, is on tribal procurement: the Navajo Nation Business Regulatory Department, how to do business with the Navajo Nation and with the federal government, and federal procurement programs such as 8A and HUBzone.

Participants who attend the entire series get free promotional items, according to the flyer.
